Blog #12 Breakfast, it does a body good?

Hi again cadets. As you learned last week, soda or sweetened drinks are one of the highest forms of calories that you can put into your body on a daily basis. I am sure that most of you were surprised to find out actually how much sugar you were drinking on a daily basis. Well, now it's your turn to educate each other. Watch the following video about breakfast cereals. Once you have finished, you must post your favorite cereal and explain what amount of sugar is actually in each box that you eat. Remember to post your information along with a website to support your facts. And last as usual, make sure that you read and comment on other cadet's work. I am sure you will be surprised about cereals today and how much sugar they contain. Here is your video, hope you enjoy:

  1. My favorite cereal is Special K fruit and yogurt. It contains 11 grams of sugar. Usually I would think that since special k is known for a diet cereal it would be healthier. I learned to read the label on everything before I eat it. If you dont, then you never really know what you are putting inside of your body.

Here is a quick nutrition tip video, I hope you all find some good use in it.

  2. My favorite cereal is Chocolate Cheerios which has a great taste, but 12 grams of sugar per cup and 108 grams per box. Although it contains 12 vitamins and minerals and a good source of Calcium and Vitamin D, it contains a lot of sugar. To think Cheerios would have little sugar. Thank you Cordero for that educational video. I should think again when buying cereal if it contains too much sugar.

  4. My best cereal is Froot Loops~~. After I watch this vidio I’m like “oh @#$%” But that's the ttruth. Each cup of froot loops(30.9g) has about 110calories.so that means if I eat one cup of froot loops evey day and 7times a week I’ll 770 calories and 84grams of sugar!!!! That’s a lot! I should eat less cereal.

  5. My favorite cereal is Cookie Crisp and i know for sure it has tons of sugar. It probably one of the unhealthiest ones out there :X. It has 13 grams of sugar and 120 calories. I am surprised to see that it has so little. I thought it would be a lot more. And as Harmen Chan said... I love Honey Nut Cheerios as well and i know that is one of the healthiest cereals even though they are probably tricking you with the lower cholesterol because im sure it probably doesn't lower it at all..

And to H.Chan, I originally assumed that Honey Nut Cheerios would have less that 9 grams, since it's generally good for those with high cholesterol.

my favorite cereal is Raisin Bran Crunch it has 3 carbohydrates per dietary serving I'm very confused as to why they mentioned that the term dietary serving sounds unnecessary given that it is the same amount of carbohydrates in the box per serving and if you ate one serving of the box it would be the same amount of carbohydrates in the dietary serving because it is the same serving size what is the reason for that information Ive seen the box myself and it is the same!

  20. My favorite cereal is Grandma Hilda's Granola cereal.
here are a couple reviews from people about this cereal. http://www.foodbuzz.com/blogs/us/new_jersey/bloomfield/1493332-review-of-grandma-hilda-s-old-fashioned-granola-cereal-5-0-5-0-
In a 1/2 cup of Grandma Hilda's Granola cereal you'll receive a generous helping of calories (280; 60 from fat). You'll also receive 7 grams of fat (1 gram saturated), zero grams cholesterol, 45 mg sodium, three grams fiber, 13 grams sugar, and five grams protein. I found that the dominant sweetener is brown sugar.
