Blog #23 Persuasive Essay:Business, Facebook and your privacy

Good morning cadets. I  hope you are enjoying your vacation time. You assignment this week is to write a "Persuasive Essay" on whether businesses and corporations have the right to ask for your Facebook Email and Password during a job interview before you are hired.  For those of you that were in class on Thursday, you already know what position you were given. For those that were not, you must select the opposite side that you would normally take and argue that point.  The details are as follows: 5 Paragraphs; 400 to 500 words; Typed; 12 pitch font; Ariel Font; double spaced; one inch border on top and sides.  You must also post a website URL to this blog that you used for your research information. Make sure you also post your final opinion here as well as posting comments on other cadet's work. Good luck and I know you will have a good time with this argument|

in reality i think it is an almost communistic big brother sort of view on peoples lives. this is a personal issue that can ruin someone and destroy any odds of getting a job and the fear of a personal life.

    1. Make sure you always capitalize the letter I when talking about yourself. It is possessive and must be capitalized.
Good point later on about a violation of your constitutional rights. Also everyone else's that can be looked at through your befriended site.

i don't agree with the idea of having to give up your password in a job interview or anything is an invasion of privacy, and its unnecessary if they have enough requirements to be hired.

I think that it is pointless because most people are not willing to give up this information and you could actually be turning down a perfect candidate for the job. The link above has the experience of Mr. Macleod how he felt when he had to answer this question. The link above also contains some tricks to get out of that situation.

Who knows in what hands your facebook could end up in.

  5. http://afmediagroup.org/asking-for-facebook-passwords-disturbing/ I do not agree that employers should ask employees for the passwords to their personal account with all of their information and should respect that line of privacy and should not be a requirement.

I have used the website above to help me write my essay. I personally don't like the idea of giving Facebook passwords to employers. I think you personal privacy should not be invaded. I also agree with Cadet Chan because it is pretty pointless to look through an employee's Facebook. What are the employers trying to find?

  7. Hey here is another reason why it is wrong. the first amendment is the freedom of speech. face book is used as a safe haven for free speech and for a company to impose your freedom of speech just for the possibility of employment that defies your freedom of speech.

I think the requirement of password from employers should be banned, because it invades our privacies of our personal infromation. As the Facebook's statement says,"We don't think it's the right thing to do..." Not sharing passwords is a basic tenet of online conduct. Aside from the privacy concerns, Facebook considers the practice a security risk.If the person has the enough ability to satisfy the requirement of the job, he shoulds get the job without the invadement of privacy.

I have to write that I am for the Facebook access of employers although I don't agree that it should be allowed. I feel that it is an invasion of privacy.

This is the article that I have used as a source for my essay. My position was against. I didn't hand in the essay because I was absent monday due to a family emergency, and I prefer handing it directly to 1SG because I've experienced that somehow my work manages to get lost.

I agree that asking for access to someone's personal facebook is really just an invasion of privacy because, even though you have nothing to hide, it's very weird and awkward to know you're BOSS has seen your person fb page.

  11. This isn't right. i was given the argument of why i am against it. they wanna see how u are in the street when your not at work, but i feel that as long it doesn't effect your actions in the workplace there shouldn't be no reason why a girl or a boy can go out for a drink with his/her friends. also, there may be important conversations between you and a loved one and they will look at that and even judge you by the type of friends you have. there is a reason why they say call it Privacy Policy

    1. Good source. Interesting to note that it is being used more by Universities than Businesses right now. Make sure that you always capitalize your letter I as it is possessive. You must also comment on another students work to get full credit for your work.

  12. i am against the fact that you have to give the business your email or password to them just for them to see if your really qualified you don't need to have someone facebook just to see if their good enough they can show you through a job interview and by the way if you do give them your facebook they are allowed to go thorugh your friends information (1SG Lewis who said this).http://ezinearticles.com/?Social-Networking:-Good-Thing-or-a-Bad-Thing?&id=5263570

In my opinion I believe that there's nothing wrong with employers having access to employees Facebook account because by the employers having access they can get a job that best fits them and it can help them in a bigger and better way.

I find the act of asking employee's facebook account login and password information is completely absurd. Giving your facebook password is like giving a stranger the keys to your house. It is like giving a stranger your credit cards and your pin along with it. I think this act is a complete invasion of privacy and I am in no way, shape, or form for the act.
