Blog #24.1 Military Might and the Vietnam War

Since we are nearing the home stretch for JROTC as LET2's you need to know about your term project so here it is. We are going to be studying the Cold War; the Korean Confict; and the Vietnam Conflict this coming marking period so your term project will revolve around movies and learning from a video You assignment is an easy one as you will see from the following list.  You first must select a movie about the Vietnam Confict and watch the movie.  Once for pleasure and the second time to fill in your movie review term project paperwork. Once you have completed this you will be on your way to passing LET2 as long as you have passed all of your other requirements.

Here are a few of the Vietnam War movies that are available to watch online or downloadable from various sources. Remember to post your 3 choices and you must explain why you want to watch at least two of the movies. Post a URL for the movies and also comment on other Cadet's work. Good luck and I hope that you are one of the lucky ones to post first in your class.

Select at least 3 movies that you want to choose from and post your responses back our blog. Once you have done so, explain why you chose at least two of the movies. After that, you must then find a Video Clip to post about your movie and post it back to our blog. Remember, you need 3 Movies so that in case someone else in your class get's the movie you wanted, you still have two more to fall back on.  I expect all students to have posted their work by the end of their 7th and 8th period classes. You will make your final selections on Friday when I return to the classroom.

Surprisingly i haven't heard of any of these movies, however i do look forward to furthering my knowledge on the Korean War. the movies i would like to see are Heaven and Earth - 1993, Faith of My Fathers - 2000, We Were Soldiers - 2002. We Were Soldiers is a 2002 war film that dramatizes the Battle of Ia Drang on November 14, 1965.A French unit on patrol in Vietnam in 1954, during the final year of the First Indochina War is ambushed by North Vietnamese Army forces. NVA commander Nguyen Huu An orders his soldiers to "kill all they send, and they will stop coming." Faith of My Fathers is a 2005 American television film, directed by Peter Markle. Based on the 1999 memoir of the same name by United States Senator and former United States Navy aviator John McCain, it aired on A&E Network on Memorial Day, May 30, 2005. these two movies seem to be interesting and full of information.

I would like to see Rescue Dawn, Apocalypse Now, and We are Soliders. Although I have never seen any of these movies I am really looking foward to seeing Apocalypse Now because my gobal history teacher onced mentioned it and she said it was a really good movie. As for Rescue dawn the trailer made this movie seem very interesting. The reviews for We are Soilders made this movie seem like a good movie. Although we only need to see one movie I'm going to see all three to see how each movie portray's this very important historical moment.

i chose We Were Soldiers, Rescue Dawn,Good Morning Vietnam. i made this choice because the title is catchy and attracting. we were soldiers give a description about the conflict and the war the took place in Vietnam. Rescue Dawn describes the war of Vietnam in Laos and the mission of U.S military to remain south Vietnam non-communism.

I selected these three movies because:

Rescue Dawn - I had already watched it and knew it was a good movie.

Casualties of War - It was the most recently made movie on the list.

The Hanoi Hilton - It was recommended to me by a cadet that I will leave as anonymous.

I want to watch Good Morning Vietnam, Apocalypse Now, and The Deer Hunter. I want to watch Good Morning Vietnam because it's a popular movie of Robin Williams and he is a very notable man. I want to watch Apocalypse Now because the director of Full Metal Jacket made this movie, so I want to see what his other works are.

The movies i've chosen to watch are The Hanoi Hilton, Faith of my Fathers, and The Green Berets. The movie i want to watch the most is The Hanoi Hilton because as an interest, any movie covering POWs are ones i like. Not only that, but because i want to learn and discover the casualties and conflicts many POWs have faced. The second movie i would like to watch is Faith of my Fathers. This is also another POW based movie that perked my interest. The third movie i want to watch is The Green Berets because kidnapping and controlling a camp? That seems really interesting.

The movies I have selected are Hamburger Hill, We Were Soldiers, and Full Metal Jacket. I selected these movies because I grew up watching these with my dad. I enjoyed watching the violence and chaos that involved these movies. The movies let us peer into the lives of soldiers making it easy to fall in love with its characters. They are great stories of heroism and tragedy. That's all I have to say about that.

My top choice is Tunnel Rats because the director revealed that the actors had no script and simply improvised. I wish to see if the dialogue would be effective. My second choice is Rescue Dawn because it is based on a true story, and I want to watch of an actual account of a Vietnam War veteran. The third on my list is The Anderson Platoon.
