Blog #26 Saluting those that served our country with honor and valor

Good morning cadets. We are in the process of celebrating Memorial Day this coming Monday so your task this week is to honor those individuals that have fought for and served our country, most have paid the ultimate sacrifice. You must post a video to our site that honors the memory of our valiant service members and write about your feelings towards those individual's sacrifices. You may also post a story or a poem that reflects their courage. If you create your own video and post it to YouTube and then to our site, you will get double credit for your work this week. Remember that the last thing that you have to do is to post a comment on at least one of your peer's works. Thank you so much for taking the time to display your caring for these individuals.  Here is a video that I feel is very fitting for this week.

    1. How do you feel about Memorial Day? Whom do you have to thank for your freedom? Please express your gratitude in writing, not by just posting a video link.

    2. I feel that memorial day is a day for people to thank veterans and soldiers for their dedication to their country. Memorial day should be for the ones who sacrificed for the country but also the one who fought or had fought for the country and came back alive. Memorial day should be a day of gratitude toward the military for their service and protecting our country. I thank everyone who fought for our country because without them we wouldn't have any freedom. they deserve all of our thankfulness and gratitude.

Memorial Day is a day for all the people who died in service so as a cadet I feel obligated to pay my respects. Although I haven't served and fortunately have never had to lay down my life, i still wear my uniform with pride because I know that I put in effort to be a better citizen. Memorial day is a day where all the veterans and active members honor their fallen comrades and friends. They also reflect on their years in service and hold their families a little tighter. These passed few days i was trying to write a poem to show how thankful I am that these soldiers risk their lives for my freedom but i found it especially hard to do, but I hope the collage I made will.

I agree with you because Memorial is a day where we all come together to pay respect and honor our fellow veterans, police officers, and firefights, anyone who served to protect out country.

I was planning to make a video but i didnt have enought time so i made a poem. I give my respects to those who have served for our country. For some they knew they werent going to return back. They are the true heros that will remain in many hearts. I found a video of a group of soldiers placing flags on tombstones. I had the chance to do the same Saturday. We placed  flags for those who fought for our country.

Your poem captures what most young Americans wish to express to soldiers. It is short and straightforward, but heartfelt. It is also good to know that you personally performed an act to show your gratitude for veterans.

This poem may mean something small to some but to others this act of gratitude means the world to certain individuals. It's hard for young teenagers to understand and respect Memorial day, some brush it off like another day off. But this poem shows otherwise, it shows the mature young teenagers appreciation.

Memorial day is a day that we set apart from the rest of the year in order to honor and remember the people that served our country. Not only military, but also firefighters and police. Here is a link to a video about memorial day.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=r2RwRi2TjA0

I personally thinks that the people that have served our country like firefighters, police officers, and soldiers should have everyone's respect. These people put their life everyday on the line so people could be free, and most of them know that they may never see their family's again. "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends." John 15:13 , this line truly reminds me of the everyday lives of soldiers

I want to thank the veterans who served for our country for those who didn't have the guts or courage to. It isn't easy fighting with your life on the line knowing there is a chance you won't ever see your family members again. To some veterans, war is all they got, to not fight is like dying. Besides veterans, i want to honor our dear police officers, fire fighters, anyone who stands for a cause of justice. Without their actions, we wouldn't be America, the country that is loved by all.

    1. i agree that not only veteran should receive our respect and honor but police officer, doctor and fire fighters because they worked equally as hard to keep a country safe and protected. Either they protect us from diseases, fire or bad people. they gave their all for us and they should get our respect.

For having left their own families to protect those of strangers, veterans deserve much more than commemoration. It takes valor, persistence, and ineradicable resolve to muster up the will to guarantee that the interests of the nation are upheld. The mere mental capacity of soldiers is worthy of praise, even though this trade is physically demanding. In turn, they should at least receive respect and gratitude, even from those who may not be in approval of that for which this country stands.

Leaving the safety and comfort of their homes and families to fight and serve when they don't have to requires courage of the highest caliber. So the fact that they die on foreign soil is sad and those who do make such a sacrifice deserve to be honored and respected on this day by everyone. Even when it's not for the right cause they do it because they have to and because they serve not just their country or families but for the other man/woman who has to go out and fight as well.

  11. Although it might be late I still would like to thank all the veterans. What they do for this country is something we should appreciate and be thankful for. A simple thank you may not even be enough. I believe that they should be thanked every day and not only once a year. It takes a lot of courage, strength, and sacrifice to do what these brave solider do for us. We should respect, honor, and be grateful to them because they sacrifice their life's, their families, and everything they have for us, our country. Freedom is not free and they are the ones paying for our freedom. I have great respect for these veterans and I look up to them.

    1. I agree they should be treated with more respect and honor for what they do. This is why there should be programs that help out veterans.

Memorial Day, to some it might be a regular day off. But whats the purpose of it exactly? It's a day to remember those who died serving in our country's armed forces. These certain individuals are brave for putting their lives on the line for the love of their country and for their people. Gratitude and the upmost respect should be shown to them. Without our soldiers we wouldn't be where we are today. Soldiers fight so that America is the land of the free because we are the home of the brave.

It is true, so many people are ignorant of the weight the pledge carries.

  13. So many people are ignorant of the sacrifices soldiers make every day. Holidays like memorial day are viewed as days off by students, and the meaning of the holiday completely eludes them. Most people take their rights for granted, but without the hardships selflessly and courageous endured by soldiers these rights would be non-existent. The true meaning of these holidays, such as veterans day, are to pay respects to those we have lost in the fight for freedom, to honor those sacrifices and efforts made in the name of our nation. Those men and women deserve more respect than athletes or actors, as our society so wrongly gives the greater token of respect to. So many people fail to realize that without these brave men and women, that pledge they give every morning would be meaningless; as it already is to thousands of ignorant students. Soldiers need to be given greater glory and memorials and holidays must be strongly exemplified, as the courage in the hearts of our soldiers is lost among the pathetic society we live in today. The people in this video are the minority who truly understand the sacrifices made.

Veterans should be thanked everyday not just on days of remembrance. Veterans are the reason why we have freedom to pay. The pay the ultimate price going out to fight leavening there family , friends, and parents behind knowing they could die. What I don't like is that some veterans are treated like trash. They come back from serving can't find a job and don't have a home to live in. How is this even possible? So when you see a veteran just give them a warm thank you them will appreciate .
