Blog #16 Staying healthy, having fun

Hi Cadets. I hope you enjoyed your MLK holiday and are looking forward to getting back to your studies.  Here is the link that I promised you that will give you 20 exercises that you can do in your home without having to go to a gym and pay for special equipment. http://www.realage.com/fitness/at-home-workout
This should make your parents and your wallet happy.  Take a look at the site and let me know which exercises you find the most interesting.  After you make your post, search the internet for other interesting and fun exercises to keep fit without having to spend a lot of money. Post your URL back to our site and also remember to comment on other cadets' work.  Keeping in shape during the winter months can be trying but with persistence comes rewards. Thanks for all of your hard work this past semester and I hope we have more fun this next semester.

Blog #15 What is your drug of choice?

We are going to be moving on in the area of health. Your mission is to select one of the drugs
that are listed in Chapter 3, pages 98 to 120 that you are interested in learning more about.
Once you have selected your drug of choice, post your answer to our site, explain why you
chose that drug and then post your URL address from the web where you found out more
information on that drug. Remember to choose wisely and the same drug can only be chose
3 times from the same class so watch out and read the postings. Be sure to comment on other
cadets work and then you'll be done with your work for this week.

Although this video has nothing to do with drugs, it does have information that is eye
opening. I hope you enjoy this and share it with your friends and family.

Blog #12 Breakfast, it does a body good?

Hi again cadets. As you learned last week, soda or sweetened drinks are one of the highest forms of calories that you can put into your body on a daily basis. I am sure that most of you were surprised to find out actually how much sugar you were drinking on a daily basis. Well, now it's your turn to educate each other. Watch the following video about breakfast cereals. Once you have finished, you must post your favorite cereal and explain what amount of sugar is actually in each box that you eat. Remember to post your information along with a website to support your facts. And last as usual, make sure that you read and comment on other cadet's work. I am sure you will be surprised about cereals today and how much sugar they contain. Here is your video, hope you enjoy:

Blog #11 You are what you eat, specially during the holidays.

Good morning cadets.  Since we are learning about eating healthy, your assignment this week is to keep track of everything that you eat for an entire week.  The form that you need to use is in your Cadet Reference Handbook and you will need to print 7 of them, one for each day.  You must fill out each item that you eat and then find out how many calories you have consumed each day. While working on this exercise, you must post the item you have eaten that contained the most calories and also post a website URL that lists caloric content for food items.  The last thing that you must do is to post a comment regarding other cadet's work. If you discover something new, make sure you post that information as well and videos are always helpful.  Good luck and I know everyone will do great with this assignment.  Here is the link to download the Calorie Daily Worksheet: Cadet Calorie Worksheet

Blog #10 Welcome Mr. Wiley, journalist and world traveler

Welcome back from your Thanksgiving break cadets.  The good news is that Mr. Wiley will be able to join us this Friday so your task is to read his bio that is posted with the attached link and to write three questions that you would like to have him answer. Remember that he will be in our classroom as well so you will really enjoy what this person of living history has to say. As always, also reply to other cadet's work and post a link that will have some pertanance to one of your questions. Good luck and I hope you have a great time with this assignment.

Blog #9 We all have something to be thankful for, what's your reason?

Since it is Thanksgiving week, your assignment this week is to list 3 things that you are thankful for and explain your reasons.  Once you have done that, your remaining responses are to comment on other cadet's work and to also post a video URL link about Thanksgiving.  Here are my reasons:
1:  I am thankful for having a wonderful caring family that offers support and brings happiness to my life.
2:  I am thankful for having a job that I enjoy and keeps me young at heart.
3:  I am thankful for having a new grandson that is healthy and my daughter is doing well also.

I hope you enjoy these videos:

Blog #8 What Leader floats your boat and will be your role model?

Good morning cadets. Since we are reading about leadership and management your task this week should be a relatively easy one.  You must select a leader from the 20th or 21st century that is a positive role model and read an autobiography or biography about that person. Below is a list of possible selections but they are not the only ones to choose from.  You must select your person, then find a web-site about that individual and post the URL back to our blog. You must then explain why you chose your person as well. The last thing that you must do is to comment on at least one other cadet's work. Remember that leaders come in all shapes and sizes and also from all areas and walks of life, not just from the military or politics. Anyone that has had a profound positive effect on society as a whole is up for grabs.  Don't forget that there are 4 parts to this assignment and that you must complete all 4 parts to get full credit.  See list that follow for ideas:

Blog #7 Veteran's Day Tribute, I can't say thank you enough...

Hi again cadets and welcome back to your weekly blog assignment. This week your task is to find a moving/fitting video that pays tribute the our Veterans that fought and served our country.  Once you have found the video that you like, post the URL for that video on our blog. Then you must give a brief explanation on why you chose your video. The last part of the exercise is to comment on other cadet's work. Remember that the purpose of your work this week is to thank those individuals that have served our country.  For bonus points, you can create your own video that pays tribute to Veterans and post it on YouTube. Once you have completed that task, make sure you publish the URL back to our site as well.  Good luck with this assignment and I look forward to seeing your hard work.
PS: Make sure that you use a different video for each individuals own posting, do not duplicate each other's work. Here is the video that I chose and I post it in honor and in tribute to my dad, who was born on 11-11-37.  He fought and served in the Korean War, may he rest in peace.
