Blog #12 Breakfast, it does a body good?

Hi again cadets. As you learned last week, soda or sweetened drinks are one of the highest forms of calories that you can put into your body on a daily basis. I am sure that most of you were surprised to find out actually how much sugar you were drinking on a daily basis. Well, now it's your turn to educate each other. Watch the following video about breakfast cereals. Once you have finished, you must post your favorite cereal and explain what amount of sugar is actually in each box that you eat. Remember to post your information along with a website to support your facts. And last as usual, make sure that you read and comment on other cadet's work. I am sure you will be surprised about cereals today and how much sugar they contain. Here is your video, hope you enjoy:

Blog #11 You are what you eat, specially during the holidays.

Good morning cadets.  Since we are learning about eating healthy, your assignment this week is to keep track of everything that you eat for an entire week.  The form that you need to use is in your Cadet Reference Handbook and you will need to print 7 of them, one for each day.  You must fill out each item that you eat and then find out how many calories you have consumed each day. While working on this exercise, you must post the item you have eaten that contained the most calories and also post a website URL that lists caloric content for food items.  The last thing that you must do is to post a comment regarding other cadet's work. If you discover something new, make sure you post that information as well and videos are always helpful.  Good luck and I know everyone will do great with this assignment.  Here is the link to download the Calorie Daily Worksheet: Cadet Calorie Worksheet

Blog #9 We all have something to be thankful for, what's your reason?

Since it is Thanksgiving week, your assignment this week is to list 3 things that you are thankful for and explain your reasons.  Once you have done that, your remaining responses are to comment on other cadet's work and to also post a video URL link about Thanksgiving.  Here are my reasons:
1:  I am thankful for having a wonderful caring family that offers support and brings happiness to my life.
2:  I am thankful for having a job that I enjoy and keeps me young at heart.
3:  I am thankful for having a new grandson that is healthy and my daughter is doing well also.

Blog #8 What Leader floats your boat and will be your role model?

Good morning cadets. Since we are reading about leadership and management your task this week should be a relatively easy one.  You must select a leader from the 20th or 21st century that is a positive role model and read an autobiography or biography about that person. Below is a list of possible selections but they are not the only ones to choose from.  You must select your person, then find a web-site about that individual and post the URL back to our blog. You must then explain why you chose your person as well. The last thing that you must do is to comment on at least one other cadet's work. Remember that leaders come in all shapes and sizes and also from all areas and walks of life, not just from the military or politics. Anyone that has had a profound positive effect on society as a whole is up for grabs.  Don't forget that there are 4 parts to this assignment and that you must complete all 4 parts to get full credit.  See list that follow for ideas:

Blog #7 Veteran's Day Tribute, I can't say thank you enough...

Hi again cadets and welcome back to your weekly blog assignment. This week your task is to find a moving/fitting video that pays tribute the our Veterans that fought and served our country.  Once you have found the video that you like, post the URL for that video on our blog. Then you must give a brief explanation on why you chose your video. The last part of the exercise is to comment on other cadet's work. Remember that the purpose of your work this week is to thank those individuals that have served our country.  For bonus points, you can create your own video that pays tribute to Veterans and post it on YouTube. Once you have completed that task, make sure you publish the URL back to our site as well.  Good luck with this assignment and I look forward to seeing your hard work.
PS: Make sure that you use a different video for each individuals own posting, do not duplicate each other's work. Here is the video that I chose and I post it in honor and in tribute to my dad, who was born on 11-11-37.  He fought and served in the Korean War, may he rest in peace.

Blog #6 What's the big deal about the top 1%?

Happy Halloween cadets. Your task this week should help put things into perspective with the OWS, or Occupy Wall Street protests.  Listen to the NPR audio recording and you will begin to understand the issues concerning the top 1%.  After listening, post your feelings and list 3 items that you or your family have had to cut back on due to economic issues.  Find a site that deals with our economy or place a video showing facts about our situation.  Remember to also comment on other cadet's work and make sure that you start to finish your final push for the canned food drive that we are holding to help the needy during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. Remember that the canned food drive is over on the 16th of November. http://www.npr.org/2011/10/29/141823761/the-income-gap-explained-with-candy-corn

Hi again cadets. Your task this week should be an interesting one. We showed the video "The Power of One" in the classroom and there were many examples of one vote making a difference. Blog #4 Citizenship Skills and what should I practice?

Hello again cadets.  Since we are learning about the 7 Citizenship Skills, I thought it would be interesting to try and find News stories or videos related to each of the skills.  You must find a News story or video that is about one of the 7 skills and post the URL on your response.  You must also give a brief summary about the video and then the last thing you must do is to remember to comment on other cadet's work. Remember this last point as it is also part of your overall score. Good luck and I hope this helps to reinforce these skills for you. Below is my selected video for you to watch. I wish that Cooperation was as easy as President Obama makes it sound. If it was, our country would be in better shape than what it is.

Blog #3 The Constitution and what "rights" are for you?

The Bill of Rights from the Constitution is considered the key to America's freedom.  The 10 amendments are important as well as the additional 17.  James Madison is given credit for ensuring that the Bill of Rights was added to the Constitution.  Your task for this assignment is to look at all 27 amendments and select 1 amendment that you feel you could live without.
